Pediatric Group Urges More Dairy in Diet

The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), the nation’s largest pediatrics professional group, recently issued a policy statement urging pediatricians to recommend a diet with calcium-rich foods-such as milk, cheese and yogurt-to help combat the current calcium crisis among kids and teens.

In its statement, published in AAP’s journal Pediatrics, the group recommends children obtain calcium from food sources first, recognizing that eating patterns developed during childhood are likely to be followed throughout life. AAP participated in the Calcium Summit of leading health organizations hosted by National Dairy Council® and the Milk Processors Education Program last summer.

California Cheesemakers Take 20 Awards At Prestigious Judging

Real California Cheese (RCC) cheesemakers won an unprecedented number of awards at the 17th Annual Conference of the American Cheese Society (ACS), held recently in Rohnert Park, California. In total, 13 California cow’s milk cheesemakers took home 20 awards in cheese and dairy categories, including five first-place awards  --  nearly 25 percent of the first place awards in cow’s milk cheese categories.
