Dairy Industry Celebrates July as
Ice Cream Month!

We may grow up, but we never outgrow our love of ice cream!!! July is an excellent time of the year to celebrate ice cream month. As temperatures continue to rise well above the 100 degree mark, a scoop or two of ice cream is a refreshing treat for any age group. Keep in mind - Fourth of July is around the corner and what better way to cool off your hot guests than by serving up one of these creations below. But if you're like me and fancy stuff does not suit your personality-purchase your favorite pint size, grab a spoon, find a nice cool spot under a tree and enjoy!!!

 

Robin Rose Sundae
Robin Rose Ice Cream, Venice, California

Robin Rose Ice Cream of Venice is the epitome of the Southern California lifestyle. The specialty of the house, Robin's delicate Rose Petal ice cream, is described as a "taste of heaven." A national television documentary recently hailed Robin's ice cream as "The Best in L.A." With other signature flavors such as Raspberry Chocolate Truffle, Robin is considered the "Ice Cream Queen of L.A."

Robin Rose Sundae(Serves 1)

Robin's Rose's Rose Petal Ice Cream or Strawberry Ice Cream
Raspberry puree
Whipped cream
Candied rose petals and/or candied violets (or substitute with a sprig of mint)

Scoop ice cream into wine glass. Next, layer on raspberry puree, filling the glass half way up the ice cream scoops, top with whipped cream. Garnish with candied flowers.

Raspberry Puree
2 oz. fresh raspberries
1 oz orange juice
1/2 oz chambord liqueur (optional)

Place ingredients in a blender. Blend until smooth.

The Soda Fountain at the Ghirardelli Chocolate Manufactory in Ghirardelli Square is well known to locals and tourists alike as the place for cold treat in the Bay Area. Ghirardelli is proud to have a long-standing tradition of quality and a reputation as "San Francisco's Own". In the spirit of this tradition, the good folks at Ghirardelli have created several San Francisco-themed sundaes, including this Golden Gate Banana Split.

(Serves 1)

Vanilla ice cream
Chocolate ice cream
Strawberry ice cream
Crushed pineapple
Crushed strawberries
Ghirardelli chocolate syrup
Whipped cream
One banana, sliced lengthwise
Diced almonds
Cherry

In a banana split dish, spoon a large scoop of each of vanilla, chocolate and strawberry ice cream. Top with strawberries, chocolate syrup and pineapple. Place banana along sides and garnish with whipped cream, almonds and a cherry.

One brownie (approximately 3" x 3")
Vanilla ice cream
Hot fudge
Whipped cream
Nuts
Cherry

Warm brownie square in microwave for approximately 30 seconds in a small shallow, glass bowl. Top brownie with vanilla ice cream, hot fudge, whipped cream, nuts and a cherry.

Medium scoop each of:
raspberry sherbet
orange sherbet
lime sherbet

Sauces

Pineapple sauce
Strawberry sauce
Chocolate sauce
Caramel sauce

Topping

Whipped cream
Nuts
Cherry

In a twelve-ounce sundae glass, alternate ice creams, sherbets and sauces. Add in layers of pineapple sauce, vanilla ice cream, strawberry sauce, strawberry ice cream, caramel sauce, toasted almond ice cream, chocolate sauce and nuts, chocolate ice cream, raspberry sherbet, orange sherbet, lime sherbet, whipped cream, nuts. Top with a cherry.

Dusty Road Sundae
Clovis Ice Cream Connection, Clovis, California

The Clovis Ice Cream Connection is located in old town Clovis in the center of the Farmer's Market where, on Friday's, the town comes out to celebrate the start of the weekend. And there is no better way to start a weekend that with an old fashioned sundae from Will Rohde's ice cream shop.

Dusty Road Sundae(Serves 1)

Coffee ice cream
Hot fudge sauce
Powdered malt
Whipped cream
Maraschino cherry

Scoop ice cream into a small glass bowl. Add hot fudge sauce, powdered malt, and then the whipped cream. Garnish with a cherry.
